By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

From 2020, almost 20 snail farms will be opened in Georgia, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

As reported, Georgian Nadi Group will be facilitator for developing heliciculture in the village Akhali Khibula of Samegrelo-Zemo Svanetis region of Georgia.

According to one of the founders of the Nadi Group, Merab Nadaraia, after the group opened a snail farm in Georgia in September 2019, interest in this business area increased.

“The design of some new farms has already been completed," he said.

As Nadaraia noted, each farm will be allocated an area from 0.5 hectare to 5 hectares. In his words, the farms will be private enterprises.

“Some farms will be opened in May 2020, and others will start operating in September 2020. The sequence of opening these farms depends on how they will mobilize finances,” said Nadaraia.

New farms must be supplied with female snails that will be delivered from the existing farm, he added.

According to him, there is a demand for snails in the local market, while the company also considers export opportunities.
