External merchandise trade increases in Georgia

In 2019, the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $12.8 billion, 2.7 percent higher year-on-year, Trend reports referring to the Georgian National Statistical Office (Geostat).

The exports equaled $3.7 billion (12.4 percent higher), while the imports stood at $9.1 billion (0.8 percent lower).

The negative trade balance was $5.2 billion in 2019 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.2 percent. The exports excluding re-exports amounted to $2.3 billion, 5.7 percent higher year-on-year.

In 2019 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 73.3 percent. The top partners were Azerbaijan ($498.7 million), Russia ($497.1 million), etc.

In 2019 the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 65.8 percent. The top partners were Turkey ($1.6 billion), Russia ($975.9 million) and China ($858.7 million).

In 2019 the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 66.9 percent. The top trading partners were Turkey ($1.8 billion), Russia ($1.4 billion) and China ($1.08 billion).
