Statistics: Export of Georgian wine to China decreases

Georgia exported 12.1 million bottles of wine to 39 countries in January-February 2020, which is identical to last year’s data, Trend reports referring to the Georgian National Wine Agency.

The revenues from the sale of Georgian wine in the first two months of 2020 amounted to $31 million. Revenues increased by seven percent compared to the same period of 2019.

The top five countries that imported Georgian wine in January-February 2020 include Russia – 7.58 million bottles (a decrease of 13 percent), Ukraine – 1.31 million bottles (an increase of 35 percent), Poland – 1.11 million bottles (an increase of 77 percent), China – 562,664 bottles (a decrease of 6 percent), and Kazakhstan – 274,068 bottles (a decrease of 21 percent).

Meanwhile, Head of the wine agency Levan Mekhuzla said that Georgian wine exports increased to the EU, Japan, Canada and other traditional export markets. He also noted that the price of Georgian wine has increased on international markets.

In January-February, exports of Georgian wine increased to Latvia – 230,730 bottles (an increase of 30 percent), Germany – 150,862 bottles (an increase of 53 percent), Lithuania – 115,992 bottles (an increase of 11 percent), Estonia – 97,326 bottles (an increase of 29 percent), and Scotland – 53,124 bottles (an increase of 100 percent).

In January-February, Georgia has generated $46.8 million from the sale of alcoholic beverages abroad (an increase of 7 percent).
