The delegation of AzerGold CJSC, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board Khayyam Farzaliyev, visited Spain at the invitation of Trafigura - the largest private supplier of metals to the global market, AzerGold’s press officer Ariz Tarverdiyev told Trend.
The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with operations of MATSA (Minas de Aquas Teñidas), Spanish mining company, study the advanced technologies used in the mining industry and expand Azerbaijani-Spanish business relations.
The AzerGold delegation visited one MATSA's mine in the province of Huelva, where it was familiarized with the production of copper, zinc and lead concentrates, the material and technical base of the company as well as with the conditions created at the plant and in the laboratory.
"MATSA's mine has similarities with the Filizchay deposit, located in Azerbaijan’s Balaken district, and is one of the largest deposits in Europe for the volumes of ore reserves, ranking among the top ten polymetallic reserves around the world. Given that AzerGold will commission the Filizchay deposit in the coming months, the expansion of business relations with Trafigura can make a significant contribution to its development," Tarverdiyev added.
Trafigura, along with operating in the mining industry, functions in the marketing and logistics of hydrocarbon products. Founded in 1993, Trafigura is one of the largest physical commodities trading groups in the world. Trafigura sources, stores, blends and delivers a range of raw materials (including oil and refined products and metals and minerals) to clients around the world. Trafigura Mining Group manages mining operations, develops projects and conducts technical audits of existing and potential investment projects.
The exploitation of the MATSA field began in 1997. The mining is conducted jointly with Exchange Intevesty company from the UAE.
