Overall activity of Iran's big industrial enterprises increase

Iran's large industrial enterprises have increased their activity by 6.1 percent in 3 months (23 September - 22 December 2019) as compared to the same period last year, Director General of the Central Bank Abdul-Nasser Hemmati wrote on his Instagram page, Trend reports.

According to Hemmati, the activity of enterprises was negative compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2019 to June 21, 2019) and (from June 22 to September 22, 2019).

Hemmati added that this increase indicates that there will be more positive development in the non-oil sector.

Hemmati express to hope that problems arising as a result of coronavirus spread in Iran will be temporary and increase non-oil sector's activity.

Iran is one of the countries heavily affected by the rapidly-spreading coronavirus. According to recent reports from the Iranian officials, over 9,000 people have been infected, 354 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 2,900 have reportedly recovered from the disease.

The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.

Following the reports of coronavirus spread in the Islamic Republic, several countries have taken measures, including closing borders and banning flights.

The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19.
