By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

COVID-19 pandemic has partially interrupted positive development of relationship between Kazakhstan and Germany, an official source at the Germany’s Federal Foreign Office told Trend.

The official said that since Kazakhstan gained the state independence, its bilateral relations with Germany have developed continuously, particularly in the area of economy and trade.

Kazakhstan is Germany’s largest trading partner in Central Asia, and German-Kazakh trade exchange registered a very impressive growth of 32 percent in 1Q2020, said the official.

“Unfortunately, with the onset of the pandemic, this positive development has been partly interrupted. Nevertheless, we believe the momentum to take up again in the near future. Kazakhstan ranks fifth in the list of oil suppliers to Germany, and a number of other raw materials are imported to Germany from Kazakhstan,” the official said.

The source added that agricultural products have recently made a solid growth among exports from Kazakhstan.

“In turn, German companies successfully sell vehicles and machinery as well as products of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry to Kazakhstan,” the official said.

Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee said that the value of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Germany amounted to $375.1 million in 1Q2020 compared to $344.3 million during the same period of 2019.

Kazakhstan’s export to Germany amounted to $50.7 million, whereas Kazakhstan’s import from Germany amounted to $324.3 million over 1Q2020.
