The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $4.20 billion from January through May 2020, 16.8 percent lower compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat)
As reported, the exports equaled $1.23 billion (16.2 percent lower year-on-year), while the imports stood at $2.97 billion (17 percent lower). The negative trade balance was $1.73 billion in January-May 2020 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.2 percent.
In the reporting period, the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 77.2 percent. The top partners were China ($168.4 million), Azerbaijan ($167.4 million) and Russia ($157.1 million).
In January-May 2020, the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 69.2 percent. The top partners were Turkey ($478.8 million), Russia ($336.9 million) and China ($274.7 million).
The share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 69.8 percent in the reporting period. The top trading partners were Turkey ($560.6 million), Russia ($494 million) and China ($443.2 million).
