Iran discloses amount of funds for construction of Tehran-Shomal freeway

About 4.5 trillion rials (about $107 million) in funds will be allocated for the construction of a lane on the second part of the Tehran-Shomal (north of Iran - Mazandaran Province) freeway over the next two weeks, Head of the Planning and Budget Organization Mohammad Bagher Nobakht told journalists, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He made the remark after getting acquainted with the construction of a tunnel on the second part of the freeway.

According to Nobakht, the length of the second part of the Tehran-Shomal freeway is about 22 kilometers (16 kilometers are tunnels, the rest are bridges).

Nobakht added that so far, 9 trillion rials (about $214 million) have been spent on the construction of a tunnel about 6,000 meters long and an additional 2.1 trillion rials (about $500 million) is needed to complete the construction.

The official emphasized that the departure lane on the second part of freeway will be commissioned in the spring of next Iranian year (to start March 21, 2021).

Iran-Shomal (North) freeway connects Tehran province to Chalus county of Mazandaran province in northern Iran. The highway consists of four parts.

The length of the first section is 32 km, the length of the second section - 22 km, the length of the third section - 47 km, and the length of the fourth section - 20 km.

The fourth section of the highway was the first to be commissioned in 2015. Taking into account a great number of visits to the Iranian northern regions during the holidays in Iran, this highway is of great importance, the report said.

Over $1 billion has been spent on this highway during the period of the current Iranian government’s activity (which came to power in August 2013). Some 850 billion rials (about $20 million) have been allocated for the road connecting the fourth section of the highway to the third section.
