Kazakhstan reveals investment projects in Karaganda region

Around 530 billion tenge of investments were attracted to Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region from January through October 2020, of which 83 percent are private, Head of the region Zhenis Kassymbek said, Trend reports.

Kassymbek made the speech at a briefing on the CCS platform.

“Some 45 new investment projects are being implemented in the region with the creation of more than 12,500 jobs. Of these, 11 new productions will be launched by the end of 2020. More than 2,500 permanent jobs will be created,” he said.

“The region's current economy demonstrates positive dynamics in terms of key development indicators. The share of industry in the region's GRP is over 50 percent. During 10M2020, the volume of industrial production amounted to 2.4 trillion tenge, with an increase of 2.4 percent, including in the manufacturing sector - by 4.6 percent,” Kassymbek noted.

“The ArcelorMittal Temirtau and Kazakhmys backbone enterprises work stably. At the same time, an increase in the cost of copper and steel is observed on the global markets. By the end of the year, it is planned to provide positive dynamics up to 103 percent,” the head said.

“New points of growth have emerged in mechanical engineering. In Karaganda’s Saran city, on the basis of the former RTI plant, the implementation of a project for the production of buses and special equipment with the participation of the world leader of the Chinese Yutong company continues,” Kassymbek added.

“The first stage of bus production will be carried out by the SKD method with a gradual transition to small-unit assembly in 2021. The first bus will leave the assembly line later this year,” the region’s head said.

“Also, on the basis of RTI, an active site is being prepared for the implementation of a project for the production of automobile tires together with the Tatneft transnational company with a capacity of 3.5 million tires per year,” said Kassymbek.

“The construction of the plant will begin in March 2021. The launch of these projects will have a positive effect on the diversification of the regional economy and will double the share of mechanical engineering,” he added.
