Cost of products sold in retail chains down in Azerbaijan in January 2021

The cost of products sold in retail chains in January 2021 in Azerbaijan amounted to 3.2 billion manat ($1.9 billion), which is by 1.4 percent less compared to January 2020, Trend reports on Feb. 12 citing reports from the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

According to the committee, the turnover of food, drinks, and tobacco products amounted to 3.2 billion manat ($1.9 billion) and non-food products – 1.5 billion manat ($882 million).

The cost of sold food products increased by 1.8 percent while non-food products decreased by 4.8 percent compared to January 2020.

Some 52.8 percent of the funds spent by buyers accounted for food, 15.7 percent - textiles, clothing, and footwear; 5.1 percent - furniture and electrical appliances, 5.4 percent of the total spent funds - the purchase of gasoline, 2.2 percent -pharmaceutical and medical products, 0.7 percent - computers, telecommunications equipment, and printing products. Some 18.1 percent of the share of the total amount accounted for other non-food products in January 2021.

Trade enterprises sold about 26.9 percent of consumer goods in January 2020. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 49.8 percent, markets, and fairs – 23.3 percent of the specific share.

The share of retail turnover increased by 12.2 percent for enterprises, decreased by 0.1 percent for individual entrepreneurs, and by 15.7 percentage points for markets and fairs compared to January 2020.

The average monthly retail trade turnover per capita amounted to 316.3 manat ($186.05) in January 2021.
