Purchase of rapeseed from farmers in Iran continues

About 197,000 tons of rapeseed have been purchased from farmers in Iran from April 6 to June 1, Director-General of the Internal Procurement Department of the Government Trading Corporation of Iran (GTC) Morteza Saadati Kia said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Saadati Kia, about 87,000 tons of rapeseed were purchased under a guarantee, while 111,000 tons under a contract.

The director-general added that the volume of rapeseed purchased within the mentioned period increased by 18 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

“So far, farmers have been paid 2.4 trillion rials (about $57.1 million). And the rest money will be paid next week,” he said.

Reportedly, rapeseed has been planted on 350,000 hectares in Iran in the current Iranian year and 600,000 tons of rapeseed are estimated to be harvested.

One kilogram of rapeseed is purchased by the Government Trading Corporation of Iran for 110,000 rials (about $2.61).

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
