BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 2
By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:
Azerbaijan faced logistical problems when exporting agricultural products to Arab countries, Yalchin Aliyev, Executive Director of the Association for Azerbaijan – Arab Countries Cooperation, told Trend.
According to Aliyev, a drop in demand for Azerbaijani tomatoes has been recorded in the markets of Arab countries due to high prices for these products.
Aliyev also reminded that the Azerbaijan's export of tomatoes is traditionally oriented on the Russian market.
Due to high purchase prices in Russia, Azerbaijani tomato producers are not interested in selling them to Arab countries at a lower price, the expert stressed.
The executive director emphasized that Turkey and Iran remain the main competitors of Azerbaijan in the agricultural market of the Arab countries.
“Business circles of the Arab countries expressed their readiness to invest in the pharmaceutical, petrochemical industry, hotel, and restaurant business in Azerbaijan. Investments should be expected in the post-pandemic period when investors can come to the country and view the existing conditions on the spot,” Aliyev said.
