BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 7
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia is simplifying the operating conditions of customs warehouses for cars and the procedure for their registration, Trend reports with reference to the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance.
The new rules will take effect from June 15, 2021. Along with the issuance of permits, the procedures for warehousing, as well as accounting and removal of vehicles from warehouses, are changing.
In particular:
- The storage periods for imported vehicles in customs warehouses are quadrupled - from three to 12 months. Accordingly, now it will be possible to place both imported and foreign cars there (cars that will be presented at the customs warehouse at the time of registration or for which this period has expired).
- Persons who have permission to operate customs warehouses for storing vehicles will have to carry out video surveillance only when entering and exiting the customs warehouse (mandatory video surveillance at the places where warehouses are inspected and reloading operations are canceled);
- To facilitate the sale of vehicles, the restriction of export from the customs warehouse for a period not exceeding 48 hours and the condition of mandatory filling of the vehicle registration certificate will no longer apply to vehicles for which the delivery period has not expired.
These changes were made in order to take into account the interests of auto-importing companies and support the business.
In 2020, the export of passenger cars from Georgia fell by 44.9 percent, amounting to $404.1 million. Imports decreased by 31.4 percent to $759.4 million.
