Kazakhstan’s Kazatomprom National Atomic Company may be granted the permission to develop the Zhalpak uranium deposit, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology, Geology and National Resources.

The Zhalpak uranium deposit is in the South Kazakhstan region’s protected area. The permission may be granted before the expiration of the subsoil use contract for uranium mining at the Zhalpak deposit, taking into account special environmental requirements established by the Environmental Code of Kazakhstan.

At the same time, the explanatory note states that " the project will not entail negative socio-economic and legal consequences."

Kazatomprom is the world's largest producer of uranium, with the Company’s attributable production representing approximately 23 percent of global primary uranium production in 2020.

The Group benefits from the largest reserve base in the industry and operates, through its subsidiaries, JVs and Associates, 26 deposits grouped into 14 mining assets.
