Swift growth of Azerbaijan's e-commerce market to develop new trends

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 23

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

The accelerated growth of the e-commerce market in Azerbaijan will lead to the development and consolidation of new trends, Acting Director of the Scientific Research Institute of Economic Reforms under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan Arzu Huseynova told Trend.

According to Huseynova, one of these trends is the transition to D2C, that is, sales of products without intermediaries in the form of retailers, distributors and dealers.

“Another emerging trend is the proliferation of CDPs (customer data platforms). Companies strive to collect more customer information, including about the channels of communication with the store, and this opportunity is provided by the CDPs,” Huseynova noted.

"The main goal of CDP is to provide consolidated information that will help drive marketing strategy, segment audiences and create personalized customer experiences," she said.

Huseynova reminded that according to statistics, about 30 percent of video consultations end with the sale of a product.

"About 45 percent of users abandon a purchase, preferring to place an order elsewhere if the site offers an inconvenient delivery method or specifies a very long delivery time," she said.

“In the 4th quarter of 2020, the volume of non-cash transactions on payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 34 percent compared to the same period of 2019, contactless payments - by 5.2 times, and the volume of payments via the Internet and mobile banking - by 65 and 90 percent, respectively,” the acting director said.

Earlier, the Visa company announced the growth of online payments in the countries of the Caucasus region by 80 percent. A significant share in the total volume of payments by Visa cards in this region fell on Azerbaijan.
