Iran looks to intensify transit of goods through its territory

It is estimated that the transit through Iran will reach 11 million tons in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Director-General of Department of Transportation Javad Hedayati told Mehr News Agency, Trend reports.

Last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), a total of 7.5 million tons of goods were transited through Iran, the director general said.

Hedayati added that transit through Iran amounted to 3.75 million tons during the first four months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through July 22, 2021). This is an increase of 95.5 percent, compared to the same period of the last Iranian year. Thus, 1.92 million tons of goods were transited in the same period last Iranian year.

According to him, the number of trucks passing through Iranian border checkpoints in the four months for transit increased by 157 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.
