Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgian Maricultura company to grow mussels production by 5 times, Trend reports via Georgian media.

“We plan to grow production to 100 tons, while today we produce only 20 tons a year”, Maricultura Georgia founder Mamuka Mikashadze said.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the demand grows and the company plans to expand the business.

Despite the raging pandemic and a downturn in tourist inflows, the demand for and sales of mussels have increased anyway. We serve 5-star hotels and premium-class restaurants, supermarkets. This year we expect to receive a very good catch yield, he noted.

"Negotiations are underway with Armenia. They want to export our mussels and we are negotiating the details of the custom. They export fish products from Georgia and we plan to introduce other mariculture products too. We plan to apply to the Produce in Georgia agency that has launched a new program for co-funding a purchase of sailing machines. They launched this program in 2021 and we want to convey a special ship to start cultivation and catching throughout the year. We have all preconditions to become a mussel and oyster production country and we have been doing our best to develop this industry in this country”, Mikashadze noted.
