TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 25
Trend:
Iran has the potential to increase electricity export to Pakistan by more than 400 MW, Iranian Energy Ministry's Spokesperson for Electricity Industry, Mustafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports citing ILNA.
Pakistan has decided to increase electricity imports from Iran to meet the needs of Gwadar port to 70 MW. The country's previous plan to import more than 100 megawatts of electricity was hampered by US sanctions.
Rajabi Mashhadi went on to say that the transmission line to the Pakistani border has been built to supply electricity to Gwadar port, but the electricity network in this country is not ready yet.
“Iranian Ministry of Energy is ready to develop electricity exchanges,” he noted.
Regarding the payment of electricity cost from Pakistan, he added that financial exchanges have been carried out between the two countries.
“In the current special circumstances of electricity shortage in our country, the amount of exports to Afghanistan has decreased to a minimum,” Rajabi Mashhadi said.
Official stated that the total electricity export to Afghanistan and Pakistan is less than 100 MW.
