Iran records increase in trade turnover with neighboring countries

Iran's trade turnover with neighboring countries increased by 42 percent in value and 18 percent in volume, during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the new Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Alireza Moghaddasi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

According to him, Iran's trade turnover with neighboring countries for the reporting period amounted to 75 million tons worth $36.8 billion.

The director general noted that Iran exported 57.3 million tons of goods worth $18.7 billion to neighboring countries in 9 months, which is an increase of 24 percent both in value and volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Moghaddasi stressed that among the 15 neighboring countries, Iran mainly exported $6.8 billion worth of goods to Iraq, $4.13 billion worth to Turkey, $3.43 billion worth to the UAE, $1.41 billion worth to Afghanistan, and $911 million worth to Pakistan.

"Moreover, Iran imported 17.7 million tons of goods worth more than $18 billion from neighboring countries over nine months, which is an increase of 68 percent in value and 62 percent in volume, compared to the same period last Iranian year," he said.

The director general also added that among the 15 neighboring countries, Iran mainly imported $11.5 billion worth of goods from the UAE, $3.7 billion worth from Turkey, $1.22 billion worth from Russia, $880 million worth from Iraq, and $409 million worth from Oman.
