Iran keen to further increase cooperation with Tajikistan

Iran will further increase cooperation with Tajikistan in various fields, including transit, energy and services, Iranian Energy Minister and Iranian Co-Chair of Iran-Tajikistan Joint Cooperation Commission Ali Akbar Mehrabian said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

He made the remark during a meeting with Minister of the Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Daler Juma.

Mehrabian said that during the first visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Tajikistan in 2021, documents were signed on the development of cooperation between the two countries. Within the framework of these documents, economic relations between the two countries are developing.

Iran's exports to Tajikistan are also increasing, Mehrabian said.

The minister added that the provision of services by Iranian engineering companies in Tajikistan and their participation in some major projects in this country are among the priorities.

During the meeting, Daler Juma noted that one of the most significant areas of cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan is energy. He added that Tajikistan has sufficient water resources to generate electricity.

According to Juma, in the coming years, Tajikistan intends to use Iran's technical and engineering potential in various fields, including the construction of hydropower plants, as well as in the oil sector.

“At the same time, Tajikistan intends to implement a program to build solar panels and wind power plants that can generate more than 700 megawatt-hours of electricity,” he said.

The Tajik official emphasized that as a result of joint cooperation between the two countries, the largest SangTuda 2 Hydroelectric Power Plant has been built in Tajikistan, and the HPP is currently operating. The power plant has the capacity to generate 3.7 megawatt-hours of electricity.
