Iran eyes to expand trade with Lebanon

TEHRAN, Iran, September 3. Iran is seeking to increase trade ties with Lebanon, said Iran’s commercial consultant in Lebanon Ebrahim Mohammadreza Zadeh, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Iran can expand export to other countries via Lebanon, by producing joint products in Lebanon and exporting them to countries that have ties with Lebanon, he said adding that Lebanon has free trade agreements with the EU and Arab Union that could be a good opportunity.

Lebanon’s import has declined in recent years due to COVID-19 and economic issues and the share of Iran in Lebanon’s market is only 3 percent, he noted.

Iran’s export to Lebanon was $93 million in 2016 but has declined to 30 million during the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2021), he underlined.

The consultant has indicated that barter is a good solution to improve trade between the two countries during sanction situations.

According to Mohammadreza Zadeh, establishing the export guarantee fund, launching big chain stores in Lebanon, and interaction between Iranian and Lebanese businessmen could boost trade relations.
