Iran sees sharp growth in non-oil imports via Mazandaran Province’s customs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. Iran’s imports through the customs of Mazandaran Province in the north of the country, increased by 141 percent in value and 156 percent in volume, during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through May 21, 2023), Supervisor of Mazandaran Customs Office Asgar Niknafas said, Trend reports.

Within 2 months, 593,000 tons of goods worth over $307 million were imported through Iran’s Mazandaran Province’s customs, according to the official.

“The main imported goods via the province’s customs for the mentioned period were corn feed worth $118 million, animal fat and vegetable oil worth $69 million, barley feed worth $63 million, petroleum coke worth $20 million, petrochemical products worth $9 million,” he said.

Niknafas added that the goods worth approximately $108 million were imported from the UAE, $71.9 million from Türkiye, $54.2 million from Russia, $16.5 million from Switzerland and $12.6 million from the UK.

Overall, Iran imported 4.73 million tons of goods worth $7.94 billion within the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through May 21, 2023).

This is a decrease of 4.79 percent in value and 8.7 percent in volume compared to the same period last Iranian year.
