BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 27. Iran exported 27.7 million tons of non-oil products to the member countries of the BRICS plus group worth $9.1 billion during the first 5 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), said Rouhollah Latifi, an official of the Central Union of Rural and Agricultural Cooperatives of Iran, Trend reports.
The BRICS group was founded in 2001 by the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and the Republic of South Africa. These countries believe that their economies will dominate global growth by 2050. In August 2024, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, the UAE, Egypt, and Argentina joined this group, which is now known as BRICS plus.
Latifi noted that Iran's export of non-oil products to BRICS+ member countries accounted for 47 percent of Iran's total non-oil exports in value and 50 percent in volume.
The official added that China, the UAE, and India were the main destinations for Iran’s non-oil exports, accounting for $5.6 billion, $2.3 billion, and $845 million, respectively, among the member countries of the BRICS plus group.
“In addition, Iran imported 9.1 million tons of goods worth $16 billion from BRICS plus member countries in 5 months, which accounted for 66 percent of Iran's total imports in value and 63 percent in volume,” he said.
According to him, the UAE, China, and India were the main sources of Iran’s imports, accounting for $7.2 billion, $7.1 billion, and $813 million, respectively.
Overall, Iran exported 55.9 million tons of non-oil products worth $19.3 billion during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023). This is an increase of 26.5 percent in value and a decrease of 8.55 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
At the same time, Iran imported 14.4 million tons of goods worth $24.2 billion within five months of the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 7.49 percent in value and 2.17 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
