BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 7. Iran’s Yazd Province, located in the center of the country, has been active in importing goods from other countries in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), Director General of Yazd Province Customs Office Mohammad Hossein Salmani said, Trend reports.
According to Salmani, the province imported 65,700 tons of goods worth $135 million during this period. This is an increase of 8.9 percent in value and 12.4 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
The director general also said that the main products that Yazd Province imported were raw materials, various types of equipment, and spare parts of equipment.
He added that these products are essential for the development and modernization of the province’s industries and sectors, such as metallurgy, ceramics, glassware, construction, and agriculture.
Salmani pointed out that the main sources from which Yazd Province imported were Türkiye, China, the UAE, Italy, and others.
Yazd Province has a strong potential for growth and innovation, as well as a competitive advantage in some fields. The province is recognized for its achievements in renewable energy, water management, environmental protection, and cultural heritage preservation. It is also a hub for scientific research and education, with several universities and research centers that collaborate with national and international institutions.
Yazd Province seeks to improve its import performance in the second half of the year by increasing its efficiency, reducing its costs, improving its logistics, and complying with international regulations.
Overall, Iran imported 17.6 million tons of goods worth $30.4 billion in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023). This is an increase of 11.6 percent in value and 6.89 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
