BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. The Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has provided $2.2 billion for the import of pharmaceuticals, raw materials, medical equipment, and supplies based on the orders of the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education and the Iran Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 to October 19, 2023), head of the public relations department of the CBI Mostafa Ghamari Vafa said, Trend reports.
Ghamari Vafa noted that the amount of foreign currency provided in the mentioned period is 31 percent more than the same period last year.
“Since the beginning of this year, the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education and the Iran Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) have applied for the allocation of $2.86 billion from the CBI for the import of pharmaceuticals, raw materials, and medical supplies,” he added.
The official also said that the IFDA applied to the Central Bank to provide $156 million for the import of dry milk, raw materials, and medical food until October 17, 2023. Of the mentioned amount, $106 million was provided. In the past two days, the organization applied for the provision of $12 million for the import of the mentioned products. It is planned to provide these funds in the next few days.
In Iran, the import of various essential products, medicines, and medical supplies is carried out based on the orders of certain state institutions. The needed funds in this regard are paid by the Central Bank of Iran.
