BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 9. Iran plans to raise its annual trade with Qatar to $1 billion, said Mojtaba Akbari, the head of the Center for International Affairs of the Ministry of Energy of Iran, Trend reports.
He made the statement at the 9th Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Cooperation Commission meeting in Tehran on December 9. Akbari said that Iran and Qatar have low trade volume, but they have many opportunities in various sectors.
He also pointed out that by exploiting these opportunities, the two countries can enhance their trade relations.
The official added that developing trade ties, collaborating on producing different goods and services, and sharing technical expertise can increase the cooperation between the two countries.
According to the latest figures from the Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran’s trade with Qatar reached 472,000 tons worth about $148 million in the first 8 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023).
The 9th joint economic cooperation commission between Iran and Qatar began in Tehran today. The 3-day meeting is attended by Iran’s Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian and Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani.
