Iranian Golestan Province’s non-oil imports skyrocket

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Iran’s Golestan Province, located in the north-east of the country, saw a remarkable increase in its imports for the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Director General of Golestan Province Customs Office Shahriar Shahriari said, Trend reports.

According to him, the province’s imports for the reporting period grew by 156 percent in value and 143 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

The customs official added that the province imported around 68,500 tons of goods worth approximately $132 million in ten months.

Shahriari also said that the main import items were soybean oil, various polymers, sodium sulfate, fabrics, cotton fibers, and more.

The mentioned goods came from 25 different countries, such as China, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and the UK, he noted.

The latest data from Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 28.7 million tons, worth $48.4 billion, in the first nine months of the current Iranian year, representing a 12.3 percent increase in value and a 7 percent increase in volume compared to the same period last year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
