State Commission to Discuss Measures Plan within Preparation for WTO

The 6th meeting of the State Commission for Preparation of Azerbaijan to enter the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the chairmanship of the Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev to be held on May 26,Trend was told at the Government. The task of the commission includes discussions concerning the plan of measures to accelerate the process of preparation of Azerbaijan to enter WTO, as well as the existing situation to implement timely all works and measures to be implemented till the regular round of talks. The talks are supposed to be held in Geneva on November.

At present the work on making up answer on questions received from the United States, Canada, EU, Australia, Japan, the Chinese Province of Taiwan are being carried out.

We mainly received all questions the WTO countries-members would like to ask Azerbaijan, and at present we work with answers on these questions. On the other hand they work with our suggestions on custom tariffs and services, and all directions within the package of documents that were adopted as a whole, the Deputy Foreign Minister Makhmud Mammadguliyev told Trend. The process of entering WTO has several parameters: bilateral talks on tariffs and services, multilateral talks on internal support of agriculture and export subsidies, 3rd direction - the activity of the working group to discuss the existing trade regime in Azerbaijan. It is definitely that the forthcoming meeting will not become the last step, since both sides have already started bilateral talks and their positions are different. That is why they should be brought into accord to meet both our and the WTO countries-members` expects. Moreover, we must do many things in the sphere of legislation, to answer questions concerning the sphere of trade regime of Azerbaijan, told the Deputy Minister.
