Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry not Expecting Grain Shortage in 2007

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / A shortage in grain is not expected in Azerbaijan in 2007, Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismat Abbasov reported on 13 June.

According to the Minister, grain production in 2007 has been forecasted at 2mln t, import of grain at 500,000t.

"Taking into consideration that the grain terminal has a capacity of 500,000t operating in Azerbaijan, the forecasts of a shortage are ruled out," Abbasov said.

In 2006, grain production in Azerbaijan made up 2.7mln t with the demand of 3mln tons. The gap in supply and demand was covered through imports.
