Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will complete selection of a candidate for the position of head of the representative office of the IMF in Azerbaijan by the middle of September, according to Baku office of the IMF. Selection of a candidate was announced on 25 June. The process usually takes three months.
According to optimistic forecasts the new manager on Azerbaijan will begin his activities not earlier October.
Term of office of the previous head of the representative office, Basel Zavoyko, expired in June. He occupied the position for four years, though managers are usually appointed for two years with a possibility of prolongation of the office term for an additional year. However, as an exception, Zavoyko remained in office for the fourth year. That is not the first precedent for Azerbaijan, as the previous to Zavoyko manager also was in office 4 years.
Now the IMF changed its policy and is sending the heads of representative offices for three years with a possibility of prolongation of the office term for a year.
