On Sept.3, a cooperation memorandum is expected to be signed between the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Kazakhstan and the joint stock company Samruk-Energo, in the field of renewable energy sources, to start projects on electro energy and the construction of wind and solar power plants in Kazakhstan, the UNDP's regional office told Trend .

The UNDP is ready to provide information and technical support to Samruk-Energo in developing wind energy and preparing projects to construct wind power stations," UNDP Representative for Kazakhstan Haoliang Xu said.

The parties' joint activities to this memorandum will be aimed at analyzing the development of potential of wind energy and the development of legal and technical proposals for wind power in Kazakhstan, the UNDP said.

A feasibility study on the construction of wind power untis in the Jungar Gates region, Shelex Corridor and Fort Shevchenko and a feasibility study of a wind power station with a capacity of 300 MW in the Shelex Corridor will be developed soon.

An Association for the Development of Wind Energy in Kazakhstan is planned to be established in order to develop this sector and provide it with wide support, Coordinator of UNDP Public Relations Shinar Zhetpisova said.

The UNDP/GEF project titled "Kazakhstan-Wind Power Market Development Initiative" is helping the Kazakh Government, through the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Kazakhstan through the development of wind energy. Currently, the project has studied the wind energy potential of Kazakhstan and prepared project proposals for wind power in some regions. It has developed a national program for wind power and also assisted in preparing the "Supporting the Use of Renewable Energy" Law.
