Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.9 / Trend /

In August, the "Azerbaijan" Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Mingachevir (295 kilometers west of Baku) generated 370.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, which is 20.3 million higher than forecasted, the country's largest power producer, JSC Azerenergy, said on Sept.8.

The TPS, consisting of eight units, produces 45 percent of all the electricity produced in Azerbaijan. Currently, the station is carrying out modernization work. The station is planning to increase its power through the reconstruction of all eight power plants. The capacity of each plant is 300 megawatts.

The full modernization of the TPS plants is planned to be completed by late 2010. As a result of the reconstruction, the capacity of the TPS will be increased from the current 2,400 megawatts to 3, 000 MW.
