The White Stream expects to receive about 16 billion cubic meters of the Azerbaijani gas, said Roberto Pirani, the director of the British White stream Pipeline Company.

"Azerbaijan has enough gas for the first phase of the project, and we believe that the country will be able to deliver up to 16 billion cubic meters of gas," Pirani told Trend in Baku on Sept. 16.

The initial capacity of the pipeline, according to the head of the project, will amount to eight billion cubic meters a year, then its capacity will be increased to 16 billion.

The first deliveries of gas through the "White Stream" pipeline will begin in 2016, said Pirani.

The "White Stream", according to its head, has a very real chance of implementation.

"We are working over the project. At present, the negotiations are underway with gas suppliers. We have already signed a memorandum of understanding with Georgia," said Pirani.

The White Stream project envisages transporting gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field to Europe and Ukraine via Georgia through the Black Sea. Under developers' conception, the pipeline would connect to the South-Caucasus gas pipeline near Tbilisi and pass 100 kilometers through Georgia to the Black Sea. From there, a 650 kilometers (400 mi) via the seabed of the Black Sea and via the Pheodosia connect to Ukraine's transit system roughly a 200 kilometers on offshore section. An alternative plan offers to extend the offshore pipeline to Romania.
