Currently, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) supplies to Georgia nearly two million cubic meters of gas per day under the concluded contract, a government source said on Sept. 25.
On December 26 last year, SOCAR and the Government of Georgia signed an agreement to transfer management of 30 gas distribution networks covering those regions of Georgia as Kakheti, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida and Kvemo Kartli, Adjara, Guria, Imereti, Samegrelo. These networks were operated by 24 companies.
In April, SOCAR Energy Georgia also received the use of gas distribution networks in the Georgian district of Marneuli, where Azerbaijanis live compactly. Distribution networks in Marneuli consist of 31 gas supply units obtained by SOCAR Energy Georgia for use in Georgia.
Within three-year investment program, the number of consumers of these networks will be increased from about 60,000 to 150,000. Within the first year, will be built gas distribution network with a total length of 800 kilometers for 57,000 new potential customers. In the first investment year, over $28.6 million will be invested in the development of gas distribution networks.
