Kazakhstan–China Pipeline launches 2 oil pumping stations

By Elena Kosolapova- Trend: Kazakhstan-China Pipeline LLP launched two new oil pumping stations on the Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline, which form part of the Kazakhstan-China Pipeline, Kazakh KazTransOil reported on Dec. 13.

The oil pumping stations (No. 8 and No.10) were constructed within the second stage of the Kazakhstan-China main oil pipeline network construction. They will increase the Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline's capacity to 20 million tons per year.

The oil pumping stations construction was financed by Kazakhstan-China Pipeline LLP. The oil pumping stations No. 8 construction was worth 9.3 billion tenge and the construction of oil pumping stations No 10 was worth 11.6 billion tenge (154.21 tenge =$1).

The operational facilities are equipped with modern automated supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), commercial power meter, fire and gas alarms. The entire set of technological, administrative and domestic buildings and constructions meets the modern requirements of labor organization and industrial safety, the company said.


Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline is a part of Kazakhstan-China main oil pipeline network. The pipeline pumped 52.1 million tons of oil since its launch in 2016 until the end of 2012. In January - November 2013 the pipeline pumped 10.9 million tons. The Atasu-Alashankou oil pipeline is owned by Kazakhstan-China Pipeline LLP - a joint venture of KazTransOil and Chinese CNODC.

The Kazakhstan - China pipeline is being constructed in two stages. The pipeline capacity hit 10 million tons in the first stage and will be increased up to 20 million tons after completion of the second stage of construction.

The Kenkiyak - Atyrau and Atasu-Alashankou oil pipelines were constructed within the first stage of project implementation.

The second stage includes two phases. The Kenkiyak - Kumkol oil pipeline and Kumkol oil pumping station were built within the first phase.

Within the second phase the oil pumping direction will be reversed, four additional pumping stations will be built in the Atyrau-Kenkiyak section, tree pumping stations on Kenkiyak - Kumkol section and the capacity of Kumkol-Karakoin and Karakoin-Atasu oil pipelines will be increased.
