Iran's total liquid fuel consumption hit 1.036 billion liters in the week to October 10.

Some 761.4 million liters of diesel oil and 274.9 million liters of mazut were consumed in the country in the mentioned week, Iran's SHANA News Agency reported on October 13.

Iran's liquid oil consumption in the mentioned week decreased by 500,000 liters per day compared to its previous week.

The average consumption of diesel oil and mazut stood at 108.77 million liters and 39.2 million liters, respectively, in the mentioned week.

October 4 with 153.8 million liters, and October 10 with 84.6 million liters respectively recorded the highest and lowest rate of diesel oil in the mentioned week.

October 8 with 45 million liters, and October 5 with 37.3 million liters respectively recorded the highest and lowest rate of mazut in the mentioned week.

Iran delivered 10 billion liters of liquid fuel to its power plants in the first half of the current calendar year (March 21 - September 22)

The figures shows over 3 billion liters reduction compared to same period previous year, Iran's SHANA News Agency reported on October 6.

Diesel oil and mazut respectively accounted for 5.245 million liters and 7.712 million liters of the mentioned figure.

In the first six months of current year averagely some 53.8 million liters of liquid fuel was consumed in Iranian power plants. Mazut accounted for 28 million liters of the mentioned figure.

The ministry seeks to decrease liquid fuel consumption in the country by boosting gas consumption.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh previously said that by increasing Iran's total gas output especially from joint fields, the country's liquid fuel consumption in the industrial units and power plants will be reduced.

Gas shortage forced Iran to burn 28 billion liters of diesel oil and mazut in power plants last year. According to National Iranian Gas Company's official statistics, Iran delivered 36 billion cubic meters of gas (some 100 million cubic meters per day) to power plants last year. The figure is projected to reach to 42 billion cubic meters in the current year.

Mehr News Agency on July 29 quoted NIGC's managing director, Hamidreza Araqi, as saying that Iranian power plant's gas consumption in the first four months of the current year increased by 40 percent compared to previous year.

"Iran has averagely delivered over 160 million cubic meters of gas per day to power plants from the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year so far," he said, adding that the figure even reached 230 million cubic meters in late July.
