Prime Exerter floating drilling rig designed for work in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea will remain in Azerbaijan at least till 2016, a source on the country's oil and gas market told Trend.

The source said no concrete decision has been made with regard to the platform so far.

"For the present, Prime Exerter is not ready to fulfill orders and is in the process of testing," said the source. "It will be sent to Turkmenistan after making a decision on its readiness to work and this will happen no earlier than 2016."

Prime Exerter, built in France in 1981, is owned by Singapore's Ezion Holdings. The platform was contracted by Petronas company for drilling in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. It is capable of operating in the water depth of no more than 90 meters, while the maximum drilling depth is 7,600 meters.

Earlier, the rig was repaired at the construction site of Caspian Shipyard Company in Baku.
