The Gas Exporting Countries Forum's (GECF) statement on contribution to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases will be read during the upcoming COP21 conference in Paris.

Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has said the statement of the GECF's latest summit regarding the greenhouse gases will be read during the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 21, to be held in Paris, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11, IRNA news agency reported Nov. 21.

According to the World Bank's statistics released May 11, over 0.6 gigatons of CO2 (GtCO2 ) were emitted in Iran in 2012, about 15 percent more than 2008, while the global figure was 32.3 Gt in 2012.

Iran ranks the 7th in terms of CO2 emissions throughout the world.

According to the report, the net emissions are needed to reach zero by 2100 to stabilize climate change around the 2°C as the maximum acceptable amount of warming.

The report states that the cumulative emissions of 3,000 gigatons of CO2 (GtCO2 ) would lead to a temperature increase of between 1.0°C and 2.5°C.

The extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum started on Nov. 21 in Tehran.

This year, the GECF meetings, which comprise an ordinary ministerial meeting, an extraordinary ministers' meeting, a high-ranking group meeting, and the executive board meeting, will be held in the course of four days.

The GECF counts for 42 percent of the world's gas production, owns 67 percent of the world's gas reserves, conducts 38 percent of global gas transfers, and 85 percent of the global LNG trade.

The forum is made up of 18 main and observer members.

Iran, Russia, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Peru and the United Arab Emirates are the main members of the forum.

The Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Norway and Oman will also take part in the forum's summit as observer members.

The topic for this year's GECF summit is "Promoting Technologies for Sustainable Environmental Management".

The GECF was established in 2001 in Tehran and is a venue for a number of world's gas exporting countries to exchange information about concerned topics.
