Gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is planned to be supplied to the EU by 2020, the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan said, referring to Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov's speech at an informal meeting of the Council of Ministers of member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization, held in New York Sept. 25.

The minister noted that energy cooperation forms the basis of regional cooperation processes, and emphasized the role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum projects in strengthening the cooperation.

"Currently we are working on the Southern Gas Corridor, consisted of the Trans Adriatic (TAP) and Transanatolian (TANAP) pipelines. We are planning to supply Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz field to the EU until 2020. The implementation of these energy projects contributes to the diversification of energy deliveries, and will also increase energy supply and transportation in the region and beyond," Mammadyarov said.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects for the EU and provides for the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.

The launching ceremony of the first stage of the Southern Gas Corridor project was held in Baku on May 29.

A ceremony to launch TANAP took place June 12 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir. Presidents of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Ukraine and Serbia attended the ceremony in Eskisehir.

The gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field has already gone through the first segment of the Southern Gas Corridor - from the Sangachal terminal to the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline.

The next stage is the commissioning of the TANAP gas pipeline, through which gas will flow into Turkey and further to Europe.
