Baku, Azerbaijan, March 4
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Slovakia’s Eustream company is talking with various potential partners on Eastring project, Public Relations and Communication specialist at Eustream company Pavol Kubik told Trend.
Eastring will transport natural gas from different areas and alternative sources. At the first stage, it will provide the Balkans and/or even Turkey with gas from the European gas market. At the final stage, when its bi-directional mode should be in place, Eastring will transit prospective Romanian Black Sea natural gas, Caspian and Middle East natural gas to Europe.
“Following the positive results of the feasibility study, we continue in the project development as we see the pipeline concept is economically viable,” said Kubik.
He pointed out that Eastring is the only project that offers direct bidirectional routing between the developed EU markets and the South-East Europe/Balkan/Turkey - region with strong potential to be a major gas hub.
“There has been significant progress in talks with various potential partners in the region. As these discussions continue, it would be preliminary to disclose details now,” added Kubik.
He noted that Eastring project will be presented at the PCI (projects of common interest) Energy Days in Brussels.
Earlier, Kubik told Trend that the pipeline capacity will be available for all shippers/sources (including natural gas transported via the Southern Gas Corridor) on the transparent and non-discriminatory basis.
The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects for the EU and envisages the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.
The launching ceremony of the first stage of the Southern Gas Corridor was held in Baku on May 29, 2018, while opening ceremony of TANAP was held on June 12, 2018 in the Turkish city of Eskisehir.
The gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field has already gone through the first segment of the Southern Gas Corridor - from the Sangachal terminal to the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline.
Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) have been recently connected on the Turkish-Greek border.
