A power distribution company in Iran's Khorasan Razavi Province is to establish 500 small solar plants, with help from the Imam Khomeini Relief Foundation and State Welfare Organization of Iran, said the head of renewable energy department at the Khorasan Razavi power distribution company Esmail Hosseinpour, Trend reports via IRNA.
"Each small solar plant would produce electricity that would be used by underprivileged households in Khorasan Razavi Province," said Hosseinpour.
"It was previously expected that 1,000 small solar plants would be installed but due to funds limitation, 500 plants will be set up in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), and the rest would be built in the coming years," he said.
"Khorasan Razavi Province is low on revenue, and needs more support, so the mentioned small plants would help the low-income class households, said Hosseinpour.
He added that a total of 52 small solar power plants were launched i nthe province since 2018 thanks to the private sector.
He also noted that all offices in the province are obliged to supply 20 percent of their power consumption through renewable energy.
"There are currently 92 active solar plants in Khorasan Razavi Province with 120,000 kilowatt capacity," he said. "These plants have produced some 2.2 million KWt in two years, which is equal to to power consumption of 904 households."
There are 367,000 power consumers in the Khorasan Razavi Province, 84 percent of which are households, 4 percent are public offices, one percent is agriculture sector and less the one percent - industrial sector.
