Iran hits new record on gas extraction

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 9

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran’s gas extraction exceeded 1 billion cubic meters, which is new record on gas extraction, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said, Trend reports referring to Shana news agency.

He made the remark at an event held on gas supplying to several regions of the Fars Province (soutwestern Iran).

According to the minister, this figure was achieved by increasing extraction from the South Pars gas field.

Zangeneh added that Iran extracted daily 280 million cubic meters of gas from this field in 2013 when the current government took office in Iran.

“However, Iran's gas extraction from the South Pars gas field is more than 700 million cubic meters daily, at present. This figure was not achieved easily and many operations have been carried out in this direction," he said.

As many as 1 city, 55 villages and 125 industrial facilities in the Fars Province (southwestern Iran) were supplied with gas today on November 9. A total of 1.88 trillion rials (about $44.7 million) was spent on gas supplying.

The South Pars gas field is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran has so far spent $33 billion on projects of the South Pars gas field. Around 75 percent of Iran's gas is supplied by this field.

Iran extracted 570 million cubic meters of gas per day from this field in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).
