BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 17
Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
In August 2021 the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the USAID Securing Georgia’s Energy Future Program, the USAID Mission in Tbilisi told Trend.
According to the USAID, the five-year program will strengthen Georgia’s energy security by:
1) building Georgia’s energy planning capacity for long-term policymaking; 2) facilitating the increase in private-sector investment in domestic renewable energy production (including wind, solar, and hydropower) by providing technical and advisory assistance); 3) building the capacity of Georgian energy institutions to effectively and sustainably manage domestic energy markets, and 4) making Georgia’s energy sector more resilient to cyberattacks by strengthening critical energy infrastructure.
"In the economic sphere, in addition to our new energy security program, we have recently launched new programs in the spheres of SME support and industry-led skills development to build the capacity of Georgia’s businesses and workers to compete in the modern economy," the USAID said.
USAID began operating in Georgia in 1992. For 27 years, the American people have provided over $1.8 billion in assistance to Georgia through USAID.
