In total, there is 4.5 percent physical progress in the construction of the Sirik Thermal Power Plant in the Hormozgan Province (southern Iran), an official of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) Behnam Khaefinejad told Fars News Agency, Trend reports.

According to him, the foundation of the main building of the thermal power plant will be laid from the beginning of the next Iranian year (March 21, 2022).

According to the agreement between Iran and Russia, the construction of the Sirik TPP began in 2016. The thermal power plant, which is being built on an area of 199 hectares of land, will have four units, each with the capacity to generate 350 megawatt-hours of electricity. Under the agreement, the funds for the construction of the power plant are paid by both countries stage by stage.

The official noted that a total of 1.4 billion euros should be invested in the Sirik Thermal Power Plant, which can generate 1,400 megawatt-hours of electricity. About 85 percent of these funds will be provided by the Russian government and 15 percent by Iran.

Khaefinejad added that the Russian government has paid 6.2 million euros for the construction of the power plant this year, of which, 5.5 million euros has been paid to an Iranian contractor and 700,000 euros to a Russian contractor.

"Meanwhile in next year, the Russian government plans to pay 75 million euro for the construction of the Sirik TPP," he said.

Khaefinajad also pointed out that the main equipment of the thermal power plant will be produced by the Russian Power Machines Company. The generator of the 1st unit of the TPP is expected to be delivered to the country early next Iranian year (March 21, 2022).
