Kazakhstan crude and condensate production estimated to go up in 2022

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 20

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

Kazakhstan crude and condensate production is estimated to be around 1.87 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2022, a Senior Analyst at Rystad Energy Swapnil Babele told Trend.

“In the first two weeks of this year, Kazakhstan saw one of the most violent protests in its history. The protest which was focused on rising LPG price began as a small demonstration and quickly escalated into violent clashes between protestors and the government in Almaty, one of the country's largest cities,” Babele said.

He noted that some workers on the Tengiz field also joined the protest, marginally affecting the production output at the 600,000 bpd oil field.

“The operator declined any significant disruptions on the field and production returned to normal levels in a couple of days,” Babele added.

Overall, he noted, the turmoil has not disrupted any production or development activities related to oil and gas.

“Rystad Energy estimates Kazakhstan crude and condensate production to be around 1.87 million bpd in 2022 as compared to 1.80 million bpd in 2021. The operators will carry out their planned maintenance on key fields as scheduled earlier. Works at Kashagan field are scheduled for June and July, Chevron plans to do annual maintenance on Tengiz in August - September, which will have little impact on production. Karachaganak, in addition to these two fields, will undergo planned maintenance in the third quarter,” Babele said.
