BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. Romania will analyze together with Azerbaijan the possibility of starting a joint liquefied gas project in the Black Sea, Romania’s prime minister Nicolae Ciucă said on October 19, Trend reports via Romanian media.

"We agreed to analyze together the possibility of starting a joint liquefied gas project in the Black Sea. Today, a delegation from Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR is present in Romania, and this afternoon we will sign a memorandum that will form the basis of a joint investment in an LNG facility in the Black Sea", he said opening a government meeting.

Earlier, Romania’s Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu said that the launch of the gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria will allow Romania to import gas from Azerbaijan through the Vertical Corridor.

He added that agreements between countries in the region are also needed to allow the transit of this gas.

"We have been working for a very long time to bring gas from somewhere other than Russia. In order to bring gas or LNG from elsewhere, such as Azerbaijan, we need a transit agreement. We are working on this ", stated Popescu.
