BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. Italy's expenses for importing natural gas from Azerbaijan in the first seven months of 2023 amounted to 3.08 billion euros, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, told Trend.
In July, the value of gas imports from Azerbaijan to Italy stood at 259.4 million euros, reflecting a slight decrease of 1.6 percent compared to the previous month, which recorded 263.5 million euros.
During the initial seven months of 2023, Italy imported over 5.3 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan. Gas supplies to Italy in July totaled 743.2 million cubic meters, with a marginal 0.3 percent decline from June, which saw 745.2 million cubic meters.
Azerbaijan supplies gas to Europe through the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), an integral component of the Southern Gas Corridor, boasting a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters per annum.
As per the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan, the country exported 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe from January through July 2023. In total, natural gas exports for the period reached 13.8 billion cubic meters, marking a 7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022.
These exports included 7.5 billion cubic meters from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field block, 15.4 billion cubic meters from the Shah Deniz field, 5.1 billion cubic meters from the State Oil Company, and 0.1 billion cubic meters from the Absheron field.
