BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 2. The STAR oil refinery, which falls under the ownership of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye, reduced its aviation fuel production in July 2023 by 5.6 percent compared to the same month in the previous year, Trend reports.
In July 2023, the facility produced 138,233 tons of aviation fuel, whereas in July 2022, the production stood at 146,362 tons, according to data from Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
When the demand for aviation fuel decreased due to COVID-19 restrictions, STAR swiftly repurposed its production capacity of 1.6 million tons of aviation fuel to instead produce diesel fuel. Subsequently, with the lifting of restrictions, the plant resumed aviation fuel production to cater to the rising demand.
The STAR plant, which incurred costs amounting to $6.3 billion, was inaugurated in October 2018, with approximately $3.3 billion of the project's expenses covered by borrowed funds.
The STAR plant boasts an annual processing capacity of 10 million tons and can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
