BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 28. Iran currently needs 260 trillion rials (about $6.19 billion) to supply gas to 27 cities and 3,200 villages in the country, an official of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Moslem Rahmani said, Trend reports.
The official noted that currently, work is being carried out within the framework of 3,300 projects in the country.
Iran has already spent some 70 trillion rials on this, while overall the spending estimate stands at 330 trillion rials (about $7.86 billion).
Rahmani added that so far, 1,253 cities and 39,700 villages in Iran have been supplied with gas.
“Also, approximately 400 power plants, 152,000 small-sized industrial enterprises, 724 large industrial plants (petrochemical, cement, metal industry plants) are being supplied with gas,” he said.
Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. The county's gas production capacity is currently more than 1 billion cubic meters per day.
On average, Iran currently produces about 259 billion cubic meters of gas annually and more than 800 million cubic meters daily.
Although gas consumption in the country is on average 720 million cubic meters per day, this consumption rises to 1.3 billion cubic meters per day in winter. This creates a daily shortage of 250-300 million cubic meters of gas consumption. Iran is looking for various ways to overcome this deficiency
