Bulk of loans issued in Azerbaijan fall on household sector - Central Bank

The largest share of loans issued in Azerbaijan fell on the household sector from January through August 2021, accounting for 49.3 percent of total lending, Trend reports citing the statistical bulletin of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

In the same period of 2020, the given figure was 45.3 percent, said the report.

The volume of loans issued to households increased on annual basis by 1.03 billion manat (15.5 percent) - from 6.66 billion manat ($3.71 billion) to 7.7 billion manat ($4.52 billion).

According to the CBA, lending to trade and services increased over the year by 152.8 million manat, or 6.4 percent - up to 2.55 billion manat ($1.5 billion). The share of trade and services in the total volume of lending amounted to 16.3 percent.

The CBA said that the volume of lending to trade and services in the first 8 months of 2020 was 2.39 billion manat ($1.4 billion).

Loans issued in the field of transport and communications decreased by 153.3 million manat or $90.1 million (17 percent) on annual basis - from 901.8 million to 748.5 million manat ($440.3 million-$530.4 million), accounting for 4.8 percent of the total amount of loans in the real sector.

Loans issued in the field of industry and production decreased over the year by 323.1 million manat (27 percent) - to 871.9 million manat or $512.8 million. A year earlier this figure was equal to 1.19 billion manat or $700 million.

In general, the volume of loans issued to the real sector of the Azerbaijani economy in January-August 2021 increased by 922.9 million manat ($542.8 million), or 6.3 percent on annual basis - from 14.6 billion to 15.6 billion manat ($8.58 billion-$9.17 billion).
